Successful electrification test of Skiathos submarine interconnection by Hellenic Cables

The electrical tests of the 150 kV high voltage submarine cable that connects Skiathos to the Greek National Transmission System were successfully completed. This constitutes an important milestone for the successful completion of the project, which is expected earlier than originally scheduled.

Only one year ago, IPTO awarded Hellenic Cables, a member of Cenergy Holdings [CENER], a contract of about 43 million euro for the supply and installation of submarine and land cables for the electrical interconnection of Skiathos to the mainland Transmission System.

The project includes the design and production of approximately 30 km of 150 kV submarine cable, 150kV underground cables, underwater installation of the submarine cable at a depth of about 200 meters, installation of land cables, protection of the submarine cable across the entire length at sea bottom as well as protection of the underground cables on land, connection of the submarine and land cables in the landing areas and their termination for the connection of the submarine cable system to the 150 kV national Transmission System in the area of Mantoudi, Evia island.

Completion of the project is expected much earlier than the initial planning that placed it at the end of 2021, confirming the capabilities of Hellenic Cables for the execution of complex projects by adhering to strict schedules, budget and high quality requirements set by its customers.
