Hellenic Cables Cablel® Award in “Creative Greece Awards 2019”

Hellenic Cables-Hellenic Cables Cablel® Award in “Creative Greece Awards 2019”

Athens, April 4, 2019

Hellenic Cables Cablel®, has been recognized as one of the most dynamic and particularly export-oriented Greek enterprises, in the Annual Forum of Business Excellence for Outward-Looking Greece, “Creative Greece Awards 2019”, , which was held on Thursday, April 4 , at the Athens Hilton hotel.

The event “Creative Greece 2019”, which was organized by New Times Publishing, under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), the Hellenic Federation of Northern Greece Enterprises (SVE) and other industrial and export bodies, was attended by more than 500 executives from the most dynamic Greek companies, representatives of the Greek State, as well as members of the country’s independent bodies.

Mr. Alexis Alexiou, the General Manager of Hellenic Cables Cablel®, received the award and in his brief greeting he mentioned that “This distinction justifies and rewards the efforts of our people and our commitment to our vision, with emphasis on innovation, competitiveness and responsible entrepreneurship”. He also mentioned the prolonged and dynamic course of the Company, which believes in Greece and in the last eight years has implemented large investments of more than EUR 200 mil. in total, possessing today, among other assets, the biggest and most modern submarine cable production plant, world-wide.

Mr. Alexiou also made reference to the extensive projects that the Company has accomplished, such as submarine cable interconnections in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden, as well as in Greece, such as Phase A of the Cyclades Interconnection Project. He also noted, that Hellenic Cables is in the course of executing two more major projects, on an international scale, namely, the interconnection of Crete with Peloponnese and the subsea connection of Rio – Antirrio, with 400kV lines.

Furthermore, Mr. Alexiou referred to the most important and emblematic project that will be realized in the country in the near future, the major interconnection of Crete with Attica, and to the difficulties that Hellenic Cables faces in connection to its participation in the project, stating that: “Unfortunately, based on the initial specifications of the tender, our Company is excluded from the outset, completely unjustifiably. Additionally, the ability to participate is practically limited to one or at most, two foreign companies, decreasing competition, with all the relevant consequences, regarding the cost, which at the end, shall be borne by the Greek consumer. We are wondering, which external entity and for what reason, is trying to impose choices which are obviously against both the Operator and the Greek consumers, excluding, at the same time, domestic industries from large, strategic, ambitious projects ? Who and why, is using the Operator and the Crete project, as guinea pigs for untested, extremely costly technical solutions which endanger the supply safety of the island? We are neither asking for favours, nor special treatment. Our sole request is not to be deprived of our ability to participate in tenders, in order to be able to support, from our side, production and employment in Greece”.

Finally, Mr. Alexiou pointed out that “With characteristics which now constitute part of our DNA, such as flexibility, resilience, know-how and responsibility, we reclaim Greek Talent, and by contributing to brain gain, we have been established as one of the largest cable producers in Europe”.
